Need some bridal makeup tips? While it’s easy to try to cut corners when you begin to calculate all the little unexpected expenses of your wedding, your bridal makeup should NOT be an area you skimp on! From cash flush brides to do it yourself penny savers, these bridal makeup tips will help you plan for the best. What you don’t know can turn out to be a major inconvenience–the last thing you want on your wedding day!
Bridal Makeup Tip #1-Don’t Do it Yourself
If you are a bride on a budget you may be thinking ” Oh, I can do my own makeup, that’s easy.” Or maybe you are a bit of a control freak and don’t like the idea of someone else applying your makeup for you. I get it. But let me tell you one thing: this is really not the place to cut corners for your wedding day! I speak from experience here. As a bride on a budget when I got married, I decided I could just save money by doing my own makeup on the big day. Though I was advised that I was going to be “very nervous” and that I really should consider hiring a professional, I did not heed this wise advice. And I wish I had!
Though my makeup turned out okay, it was not ideal. I was indeed very nervous and had a hard time really focusing. I was rushed trying to do it all myself and with so many people all about me, relatives, bridesmaids, all fussing around me and over me, it was not a fun experience.
In retrospect, I would have paid the reasonable price of hiring a professional makeup artists not only to save me the time and hassle and to have a more perfect look on my big day, but also for the mere fact of being able to just relax and be pampered as a blooming bride–an experience which I robbed myself from by trying to save a few dollars. Word to the wise: don’t do what I did! Hire a pro!
Bridal Makeup Tip #2-Find the Right Pro
Once you are convinced that a pro is the way to go you now are faced with selecting the right one for your needs. A good place to begin is an internet search for “bridal makeup artist” or check the listings for your area on The Knot www.theknot.com.
Choose three that you resonate with the most and contact them. Talk with them over the phone or just meet them briefly to talk about your needs and get a sense of their personality and skills. Choose the one you feel the most comfortable with, the one who listens to you and who seems excited to accommodate your desires and vision for your wedding day. The last thing you need is a makeup artist who argues with you and what you are wanting, so be sure to find one who understands the look you are trying to create, is excited about helping you create it, and has the skills to do so.
Bridal Makeup Tip #3-Always Get a Pre-Trial
Again, while it may be tempting to try to save costs by skipping a makeup pre-trial, don’t fall victim to this temptation! Always book a bridal makeup pre-trial. You may even want to book more than one pre-trial with a couple of different makeup artists to see which one you like better. The pre-trial gives you the opportunity to ensure you have the right colors and the right look as well as to determine your compatibility with your makeup artists. Additionally it is much easier to make clear decisions during a pre-trial session when you are calm and clear than trying to choose colors and looks on your wedding day when you are sure to have nerves running high.
Bridal Makeup Tip #4: Stick With It
Your wedding day is sure to be full of stresses both expected and unexpected. Anxiety and nervousness are often a normal part of that deal. For some brides this can lead to a last minute changing of the mind about things that were previously just dandy. Anxiousness about the wedding can lead to the sudden desire to try new makeup colors or to go with a more dramatic look at the last minute. But please, whatever you do, do not change your mind at the last minute!
The colors you chose during your pre-trial should be the colors you use for your wedding day. The look your makeup artist worked so hard to perfect during your pre-trial should be the same look you stick with for your wedding day. Don’t fall victim to the temptation to add anything new at the last minute that you did not try out in your pre-trial. For instance if you did not use false lashes in the pre-trial, your wedding day is not the time to give them a try just because you changed your mind at the last minute. While this may sound a bit silly, believe us, it does happen from time to time. Remember that you liked your makeup when you approved it during the pre-trial. The pre-trial was designed to take one more decision off of you during your big day, so stick with what you picked!
